Industrial Cleaning Specialists are manufacturing cleaning specialists and operators of choice for many of the country’s top processing companies. On the 14th January Industrial Cleaning Specialists refurbished a waste disposal unit for one of our many high profile clients.
This company is a major poultry processing plant which provides poultry to the national and international markets. As is the procedure with all client contracts; thought, consideration and consultation is undertaken to come up with a customised approach for our client taking into consideration supplier negotiations. A final contract price was then submitted and accepted.
From here the big job begins
Before beginning, a full and comprehensive Health and Safety plan was put in place along with special PPE including: full face masks, special overalls, gloves, and a supply of Pro-Biotics.
Safety First
Safe access was also a pre-requisite for our client who insisted rigid standards be upheld, which complied with current legislation.
Scaffolding was erected to encase the entire project to fully ensure that all staff working on this project were safe, and eliminated the possibility of any falls, as the height of the disposal unit was 10 meters.
Qualified staff make all the difference.
All Unique Team members working on this project were NZQA qualified for safe working at heights. They were also qualified in the use of fall arrest systems.
So how did we do it?
Step 1
Hydro blast the entire structure to a pressure of 5000 PSI to remove all grime, flaky rust deposits and loose paint.
Step 2
The structure where required, needed to be scabler gunned to ensure all rust deposits were removed.
Step 3
All areas of the structure were treated with a rust inhibitor which neutralisers the rust process.
Step 4
Apply bonding lock to all structural surfaces.
Step 5
Apply Intermediate coat and top coat to all surfaces with two pack epoxy.
Things don’t always go to plan, but we work it out
Taking on a project like this required a degree of patience from all those involved due primarily to bad weather, production schedules and cleaning regimes.
Fortunately for those involved in working on the facility, management were very accommodating in terms of understanding access needs.
Client engineers were also carrying out repairs to the structure (which has streamlined the facility immensely) and this was done in conjunction with Unique Team members who had to work around the engineers’ work schedule.
A job well done is one that delivers on all counts
The on-site work began in late March and was completed in June, leaving the structure looking fully rejuvenated and ready to kick straight back into production.
A special thank you to client management and their Engineers, Harley from Total Access and last but not least John Barnes from Altex Coatings.
